Success Story – Antojitos González Enterprise

María González, originally from San Martín Cuchumatán, Huehuetenango, has been a member of the Asociación de Agricultores Tinecos (ADAT) for six years. After a period of migration to the United States, she returned to Guatemala with the desire to rebuild her life alongside her children.

Upon her return, she lacked the resources to continue cultivating her plot or to start her own business. Her income was only enough to cover basic food needs, making it difficult to maintain family stability.

At that point, María reaffirmed her membership in ADAT and accessed the support of the PROINNOVA project and the U.S. Government, receiving training in entrepreneurship, cost management, and marketing. Thanks to this support, she was able to establish her own business, Antojitos González, which now generates monthly income sufficient to cover at least 70% of her children’s expenses, while also improving her household’s food security.

Currently, María plans to expand her small restaurant and move it to a larger location, with the vision of strengthening her economy and creating jobs for others in her community. In addition, she has applied for educational scholarships to secure a better future for her children.

Today, María proudly states that she no longer considers migrating again. Her success demonstrates how technical assistance and project support have enabled her to stabilize her economy, build a business in her homeland, and show that the future can be created close to family and community.
